Converting an AOL IPs and Hostnames Using Calculator

The string of letters and numbers before the .ipt.aol.com is the ip in hex. CONVERTING THE IP TO A HOSTNAME1. Open your calculator program. 2. Make sure you're using scientific mode. (In Windows, View > Scientific) 3. Enter the first set of numbers of the ip. (e.g. 172) 4. Hit the hex button and you'll see it change from the decimal number to the hex value. (e.g. AC) 5. Hit the decimal button, clear and enter the next set of numbers. (e.g. 196) 6. Hit the hex button and you'll see it change from the decimal number to the hex value. (e.g. C4) 7. Repeat until you have converted all 4 sets of numbers of the IP. 8. Tack .ipt.aol.com to the hex value (It should be one string of numbers and letters without any dots or spaces inbetween) and voila! you have the hostname. CONVERTING A HOSTAME TO AN IP1. Open your calculator program. 2. Make sure you're using scientific mode. (In Windows, View > Scientific) 3. Switch the mode to Hex. (In Windows, it is a radio button in the top left.) 4. Enter the first hex value. In this case, the first hex value is comprised of the first 2 numbers and/or letters. The second hex value is comprised of the third and fourth numbers and/or letters. The third hex value is comprised of the fifth and sixth numbers and/or letters. And last hex value, the fourth hex value, is comprised of the seventh and either numbers and/or letters. (e.g. AC) 5. Hit the decimal button and you'll see it change from the hex value to the decimal number. (e.g. 172) 6. Hit the hex button, clear and enter the next set of numbers and/or letters. (e.g. C4) 7. Hit the hex button and you'll see it change from the decimal number to the hex value. (e.g. 196) 8. Repeat until you have converted all 4 sets of numbers of the IP. CAVEAT:Can't be used with AOL caches or proxies. |
